- I was the nerdy kid in school who was always the teacher's pet and picked last for every single team in gym class. While I have not been exactly a couch potato, I have not been able to stick with an exercise plan for more than a month or two. February 2005, I meet an energetic 64 year old woman who had started running at 60 and encouraged me to start. She asssured me I could do it - "Just run to the next mailbox in your neighborhood and keep going a little more each time." I started that week and ran/walked 3-4 days a week and participated in numerous 5k runs for a couple of years. I'm trying to get back into an exercise routine...work, life and too many other excuses get in the way...

I scanned the Virginia section and thought of you...
The "Eyes Wide Open" exhibit reminds me of the mass of shoes displayed at the U.S. Holocaust Museum. That sight continues to haunt me. The people walking among the shoes on exhibit also takes me back to an afternoon I spent in a UVA ballroom years ago examining a portion of the AIDS quilt.
