Bookcrossing afghan....

Work commitments prevented me from attending the Bookcrossing convention last week. The afghan was raffled off and the lucky winner will receive it in a week or so....I have a little finishing up left to do!

10,000+ of them...

I've worn a pedometer to walk the last three days and have walked greater than 10,000 steps each day .....American Heart Association recommends this as a heart healthy basic exercise goal. Another run planned tomorrow early in the AM!

Beautiful Day

Dreary morning followed by a sunny warm afternoon .... resting up in preparation for 2 long work days....found Virginia napping in one of the sleeping bags we were packing in our camper.

Getting back on track!

Finished this pair of socks - I knitted 1.5 inches of ribbing and the rest stockinette sock - looks like the slouchy socks from the eighties. Oh well, I like the colors but will continue to make the entire leg portion of socks in ribbing. I also ran 3 miles on a challenging downtown hilly course and did OK - I'm back!!!

Sadness...

With the immense sadness of yesterday's events I want to celebrate the hopefulness of a new life ... I made this baby sweater for a wonderful person at work...
I attended Va Tech for one year just out of high school (I later graduated from UVA) and enjoy visiting the campus and the adjacent downtown area to soak in that college town joy and life. I'm saddened to know it will never be quite the same again.

Smile Time....sometimes you just need it....

Knitting Can Be for the Birds...

Continue to work on the BC afghan ....will be finished in a few more days! Made a nesting material bag with the snippets of yarn and a mesh bag that had contained garlic... I've already seen cardinals and robins in the back yard. Mowed the yard today as exercise since I'm still nursing my sore left foot from 10 days ago. I tripped over my laptop cord after getting up too fast from a crossed leg position and my left leg had that "gone to sleep sensation". It was also the morning of a work meeting so I was anxious anyway - limping in with a sore foot just added to the stress. Everything worked out fine and my confidence in the work system has been restored.I ran on the treadmill the other day but found my foot has been more sore and tender since...guess I need to rest it a little more.

What to do?

My friend who owns a great clothing shop,Gone Coco, has decided to sell a line of vegan shoes...she said she was inspired by my decision to weed out all the leather items in my wardrobe and replace them with vegan ones. I picked up a cute flat nonleather wallet while I was visiting her the other day. She is also a knitter and we swap books and patterns between us....but here is my dilemma....She gave me a wonderfully soft skein of wool/mohair handspun yarn - enough to make a pair of wristlets....
do I continue to use animal based yarns in my knitting or do I stop? My philosophy is choosing a vegetarian diet years ago and my new pledge to remove leather from my wardrobe is based on the conviction that I do not want to consume anything that caused an animal's death. But what about the mistreatment of animals in fiber production? Is it universally so? What to do...what to do...

Running again

Ran 35 minutes on the treadmill at a 4 - 4.5 mile pace and walked increasing inclines from 0 - 10 for 10 minutes ... will run again Saturday. My goal is 2 short runs (3-4 miles) and 1 long run (8-10 miles) each week. Looks like for now I'll be doing most of my running solo...want to do most of my running outside because I'm bored so easily inside on the treadmill and anyway I'm trapped inside on the job too much...
